The General Contractor had completed this project, including all landscaping. After a few rain events, gully erosion started stripping the vegetation where concentrated flow was taking place. A headwall that served as one of the stormwater outfalls at the top of this hill was to direct stormwater flow through landscaping to a drainage channel at the bottom of the hill. Our team designed a permanent solution to this problem by re-grading area to channel and contain flow of stormwater from the headwall to the drainage channel; the team then installed Flexamat to hard armor the new channelized area through the landscaping. After completion, the stormwater flows from headwall through the landscaping, and finally discharging into drainage channel with no erosion or disturbance of surrounding landscaping or vegetation for many years to come. Even better, mowing operations in this landscaped area will not be effected in any way as you can mow over this product.
This site had some of the worst erosion take place that we had ever seen, this type of erosion is called "Mass Wasting". The truck court paved area sheet flowed to drain to this outfall with dry riprap in place as a dissipater before flow exits down the hill. What probably started as simple erosion developed into mass wasting of the slope and becomes essentially a waterfall at the outfall that would continue to severely erode. After tree clearing, import of common fill and getting on grade, we then installed Flexamat with additional riprap at top of slope carrying onto beginning of Flexamat. This has provided our client a worry free outfall as well as satisfying their tenant occupying this facility.
This drainage channel was constructed during original construction of the United Refrigeration DC in Fort Worth, around 3 years old. Due to soil conditions, vegetation has been stripped over time and channel flow line has eroded and failed.
After establishing flow line, in this case, we had to import common to fill to grade.
After getting channel to grade, hydro-mulch with Bermuda seed mix was then sprayed over entire channel and then Curlex was installed to insure seed would be held in place until vegetation was established. A turf reinforcement mat was installed at headwall as seen here in picture.
